2010 Partners:
Camp Locations & Schedule (Trinidad & Tobago):
- July 8: Maloney, Trinidad
- July 9: Port of Spain, Trinidad
- July 10: Point Fortin, Trinidad
- July 11: Tobago
We targeted youths with the following characteristics:
- Children aged 11-14 years of age
- Children from poor families
- Children who are interested in sports, but not the classroom
- Children who are good in the classroom but not interested in sports
- Children who are at-risk, meaning that they may not have the ideal family support and need some extra encouragement & support
Areas of Learning:
- Basketball > dribbling, shooting, rebounding, passing
- HIV/AIDS awareness
- Sports psychology
Literacy Promotion:
KLF also gave a book to each participating child, through a book fair alongside each Camp.
We also left another 500 books for our local partners to distribute throughout the rural areas of Trinidad.
Training of Physical Education Teachers:
KLF hosted two training of trainers (ToT) sessions for basketball coaches and physical education teachers in Trinidad & Tobago. Tom Smith, the former Head Athletic Trainer for the Orlando Magic volunteered his time for this important component.
