From July 15 to 31, KLF hosted 6 student-athletes (5 boys and 1 girl, ages ranging from 14 to 15 years) and 2 adult chaperones from St. Vincent & the Grenadines in Orlando, Florida (USA) for a 2-week learning tour.
The first week focused on basketball as the kids participated in Youth Basketball of America's international camp. However we incorporated some additional activities including a financial management talk from Merill Lynch and a free medical physical by Drs. Lewis & Lewis, P.A. We also found time for some fun as we took them to the movies, Disney Quest and Busch Gardens!
During the second week, we focused on educational & cultural experiences ranging from etiquette lessons to the Orlando Science Center and a tour of the University of Central Florida. We also treated the kids to Universal Studios, Wet 'n Wild, and a Cirque du Soleil performance.
Throughout their two weeks, KLF's own Adonal Foyle worked with the kids individually and as a group to teach them how to improve their focus and communication skills while also helping them to set goals and develop a plan to attain them. Our ASA kids also had to read a book of their choosing for 30 minutes each day, and maintained a journal to record their experiences.
